Nashville Bound!

I met Melanie last August when we both started our part time jobs as Mother's Morning Out teachers. She and I both had babies that were about 3-4 months old. We spent the whole first semester complaining about our post baby bodies. Neither of us doing much to change them. Then in January, along with everyone else, we made resolutions to work on losing the baby weight. Melanie got the crazy idea that we should train to run a half marathon. She thought that this would take the focus off the weight loss and put it on something else. So we began searching for training schedules that would work for us. Keep in mind that at this point I couldn't even run a minute! We finally found a plan and we were committed.

We trained and trained. We hurt our knees, our ankles, our feet, you name it - we hurt it. We slowly began increasing our running time and soon we were running 3 miles. We kept going and building our mileage. Our long runs were every Saturday, I never in my life thought I would dread a Saturday morning. Finally, we are prepared to run The Music City Half Marathon in Nashville.

In January our goal was to finish this race running or walking just not crawling. We have worked hard and our new goal is to finish running and in 2 1/2 hours. Yes, this is slow but we are proud of ourselves and are looking forward to Saturday!

I want to thank you, Melanie, for encouraging me because without you I would not be ready for this race. I need to also thank both of our husbands for taking care of the kiddos because this whole training thing has been TIME CONSUMING. We appreciate your support. We won't talk about the fact that you two get to have a great weekend in Nashville with your wonderful wives not to mention baby free! :)

One more person I want to thank is Becky. She also works with us and at one time ran ultra marathons. She hurt her knee and can no longer race. She's given us advice and support. Thanks, Coach!

Everyone please pray for our safety in traveling and for perseverance on Saturday morning. Also, my mom is keeping Emily Kay so pray that EK does not completely tire her out.
